Who’s yours? I guess it depends on your definition of “social outcast.” I mean, someone like Abbie Hoffman or William S. Burroughs are probably good, easy choices. But what bout Ghandi or MLK? Do they count? Can I pick JD Salinger, who was more a recluse, or Hemingway, or was admired but hated everyone anyway?

Buuuuuut he wasn’t a social outcast. On the contrary, he was involved in several scholarly circles and was well respected and admired — all this despite being a drunkard who just wanted to hang out and party.
