Pedro Martinez gets a physical
So its seems pretty likely Pedro will be a Phillie very shortly. Any thoughts, scrabblers? A 5.61 era last season isn’t anything to get too excited about. And I have no idea how he’s been throwing in the Dominican Republic. Anyone heard anything?

Not a horrible signing if the price is right. Scouts say his fastball is back in the low 90s. He was throwing in the mid 80s for the Mets last year. He still has great off-speed stuff and, like Moyer, knows how to use it.
Worst case scenario is that he’s a bust and the Phils eat 4 million. After 33 straight sell-outs, they can afford it.
Roy Halladay is the better choice, but I don’t mind Pedro coming in. After hearing about Kyle Drabek for a while, I’d much rather hang on to him and wait until he’s ready rather than ship him off and watch him become a superstar in Canada. The club right now seems to have steered themselves back in the right direction.
And wouldn’t it be nice if Pedro signs and shuts out the Mets in his first outing. I look forward to rubbing it in to every Mets fan I see if that happens.
Tom said:HA! Good Luck, I give him 2 starts before he’s on the DL for the rest of the year.
So we release him and get another pitcher from the farm system that can go 5-6 innings. No biggie.
Pedro wants back in the bigs. If he goes back to his headcase self in a month or two if he is getting knocked around and won’t accept a bullpen role, then no team is really going to want to take anohter chance on him. Well, not at 5 mil. a year.
