Things I Would Do If I Had My Summer Off
List below. What about you?
- learn to paint
- go hiking in weird places
- drive someplace I’ve never been
- do lots and lots of paid and unpaid and for-fun web work
- build furniture or shelves of some sort
- take photos, pick one, blow it up, learn to frame and matte it
- spend more time practicing classical guitar / piano
- record songs — mostly covers, but maybe even write a few
- Create some sort of something to hang on my wall. Maybe some sort of mixed media collage like my old friend matt winters used to do. but, y’know… terrible.
- play lots and lots and lots of video games
- pick a genre of film. watch every movie by every important director in that genre. chronologically. I’d probably either go with kung fu movies or noir.
- Volunteer at a soup kitchen or something like that.
- Sign up for Habitat for Humanity weekdays. Apparently most weekends are filled by groups, but weekdays they can have individuals come out.
- Hang out with my Pop Pop and help him build shit at my various relative’s houses.
- Read more. Maybe finally read Brothers Karamazov all the way through. Or House of Leaves. Two books I’ve gotten 3/4 of the way through then gotten too busy/distracted/disinterested to finish.
- Start working on a really elaborate Halloween costume.
- Learn another programming language. Maybe haskell.
- Learn italian and polish better.
- Go to rittenhouse square during the day and sit there with a book and chessboard and wait to play people.
- Take more day trips to NYC and see all the places I haven’t seen. Stay at the Chelsea Hotel.

I dunno, man. That one Halloween party had, that dude there Tom had the single greatest Mega Man costume I’ve ever seen. It was all amazing foam core and even though he only had one hand to drink with the entire night, he totally fucking rocked it. I don’t think I have the skills, knowledge, or materials to beat it.
That said, when has not being the best ever stopped me from doing anything. I’m totally into this idea. It’d probably take most all of a weekend. I will think on this…
i would probably make short films and submit them to festivals in the Autumn, organize some local artist exhibitions in bars and cafes, drink a lot in public, read the entire Clive Barker library, spend random groupings of days camping & hiking, and maybe work on getting knocked up.
i’d also spend a few weeks back in MancLand and do some street-teaming for my old band.
i could also help you with a costume, as i tend to make really elaborate Halloween costumes about a week before the 31st. HOLY SHIT – HALLOWEEN IS ON A SATURDAY THIS YEAR, GUYS!
