Flyers acquire Chris Pronger
Flyers trade Lupol, Sbisa, and two 1st round picks for Pronger and Dingle

As a Ranger fan, this deal bums me out because the Flyers are going to be significantly better this year (and they were already awesome). Pronger anchoring the defense on a team with such a dynamic young offense is scary, and it’s clear that Holmgren thinks you guys can win the Cup next year. You still need to worry about your goalie though, and you guys definitely parted with a HUGE chunk of the future, so if it doesn’t work out you might be hurting for awhile.
The other aspect of this, though, is that you dirty, nasty, JO Philly fans are going to love having the dirtiest player in the league in your lineup.
The draft picks are no big deal because they will most likely be at the end of the first round, where the projects are. Losing Lupol and Sbisa is what scares me, but the Flyers have a pretty good talent pool in their system to replace the two.
Obviously they are trying to win now and that is a good thing. They might have the three best defensemen in the Eastern Conference right now.
They need to sign Pronger to a long term contract because if he bolts after this year and they do not win the Cup, this could (will) go down as one of the worst trades in NHL/Philadelphia/Sports history

Ummm… what? Pronger is one of the best for sure. Timonen might be top-10/15. Then who? Coburn? You’re reaching big time here.
Also, be careful not to underestimate the importance of draft picks, especially first rounders, in a cap league. Again, this is a good trade for you guys, but it’s an enormous risk, albeit one that you almost definitely had to take.
