Well This is Gonna Be Awesome
Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. I hope Danny Elfman is doing the music.

it’s either going to be awesome or overdone with everything, including CGI. i love Tim Burton, but quite a few of his later endeavors have been insufferable. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory left a bad taste in my mouth. i really do hope it’s good – he and Elfman have proven time and again of being an unstoppable team. if they do it right, the 3D aspect could be incredible.
on another note, Tweedledee and Tweedledum look like the junkyard twins from Nothing But Trouble.
I really wanted to sock people who before Charlie and the Chocolate Factor came out would yammer on about how it was going to be sooooooo much better than the original movie because blah blah blah Roald Dahl didn’t like that one blah blah blah some stupid scene with squirrels or some dumb crap. Then when I actually sat down to watch it I REALLY wanted to go back and find every one of them and definitely sock them.
I like Tim Burton’s stuff o.k. but with each year and each project his patented brand of goth whimsy just gets more forced and less entertaining.
I definitely didn’t do any yammering on about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory before it came out, but I’ll admit that I thought it was going to be better than the original. After seeing it (and liking it, mind you), it really only made me realize that the original movie is almost fucking perfect. I LOVE the original Willy Wonka.
As far as this movie is concerned, I don’t really have anything to compare it to. Is there an old live action Alice in Wonderland? All i know is that I saw the images on that page and got excited. Tim Burton movies always at the very least look awesome, and this one doesn’t look like it will disappoint from that perspective.
Agreed, his visual aesthetic is unfuckwithable. And I will admit that I give him credit for sticking to that aesthetic and making every movie his own rather than trying to branch out and get all diverse and what have you. I think I’d ultimately be more annoyed if he tried to do a serious drama or something pedestrian and basic.

I actually think the one in 1999 is one of the worst. But I might have just been pissed off at commercials every 5 or 6 minutes.
There was one in 1985 that was made for TV that I really liked. They did both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. They sets and costumes were extremely cheesy but I think it kind of adds to it.

the 1999 one didn’t impress me much at all despite the decent cast, though i’m not sure i ever saw it through to completion. i have always loved the 1985 version because when i was it a kid, it seemed so creepy and perfect, PLUS it has an outstanding cast – the ensemble is crazy. if you watch it and end up hating it (which you probably won’t), at least you’ll get to see some old recognizable faces in really weird roles (Jonathan Winters, Sammy Davis Jr., Carol Channing, Ringo Starr, etc.).
