Andrew Sullivan makes sense of Iran.

Or the most the can be. Is anyone else completely fascinated with what’s going on over there? Why can’t Americans be that passionate about their government?

Sullivan is the only conservative blogger/writer/whatever that I can read. I disagree with him a lot (his post 9/11 comments were particularly loathsome) but he’s one of the few people on either side of the spectrum who is willing to reevaluate things he believes in, and his honesty in admitting when he’s wrong and/or his willingness to highlight people pointing out when he’s full of it is refreshing. And he’s been just as dilligent and unyielding on a lot of typical liberal issues as many or most liberal groups have been (civil liberties, torture, etc.).

His coverage of this has been pretty good, but like a lot of things he covers he tends to be a bit too melodramatic and inject himself into and thus inflate his own importance in the issue and event itself. But he also lets a lot of other voices do the talking most of the time so I guess that’s good as well.

Wisdom

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.

About The Scrabbled

The Scrabbled is a group of people blogging about and linking to all manner of things. Usually we argue and make fun of each other. Everybody knows everybody through somebody so there are no strangers here. Most of us have even met in real life! If you happen to personally know someone here and would like to start arguing with and/or making fun of someone, shoot John an email and ask to sign up. Otherwise, you're just going to have to read in relative silence. Sorry.
