Washington D.C.

I am planning a bachelor party in Washington D.C., and I need some help.

I am pretty sure I noticed while reading a post from a few days ago that at least one of you (Justin?) has lived in Washington D.C.. I am heading down there with a group of dudes for a bachelor party the weekend of the 20th. So far I have booked a segway tour of the city for Saturday afternoon (sounds ridiculous, but that’s the point) and tickets to the Nationals/Blue Jays game that night. Can anyone suggest a good restaurant for a hearty, man meal, and some nightlife spots?

Our hotel is in Arlington at the foot of the Key Bridge which is apparently a very easy walk to Georgetown, but I have heard conflicting reports about how fun that part of town is. Is it too stuffy/preppy? There’s a metro stop right near our hotel as well so I feel like the entire town is available anyway. Anyone have any ideas?

Jay,
I’m tom, gosia’s brother. I happen to live right outside DC. Worked in the city for the last few years. I think I can definitely help you out as my bachelor party was in town as well as a bunch of my friends.
Sound like you’re at the marriot (think it’s the marriot) in roslyn, good base of operations as you pointed out the whole town is available to you by metro. Georgetown can be fun if you know where to go. It can be lame and stuffy if you don’t. I know a couple of bartenders at clydes that might be able to hook you up. Anyway, you have a lot of options. Let me know exactly what you’re looking for and I can point you in the right direction. Or you can email me t-arga@cox.net. Glad to hear you’ll be checking out our AA ballclub as well.

I lived around D.C. for about five years, but it’s been a while so I’m no longer an expert on the night life… nowadays, when I visit, I let my old friends pick out the stuff to do.

Georgetown is fun for a minute until the fratty, preppy atmosphere becomes oppressive, but you won’t miss much if you avoid it altogether. Metro doesn’t stop there anyway, so it’s easier to just chug along to somewhere more accessible and go out there.

The Brickskeller Saloon, near Dupont and east of Georgetown, was always a personal favorite because of the overwhelmingly enormous variety of beer. Hundreds and hundreds to choose from.

Wow Justin, if I have final say, and I’m pretty sure I do, we just found our destination for night 1. Thank you sir.

I was going to mention Brickskeller but Justin beat me to it.

Be forewarned though.. every time I’ve been there, I’ve had to give the server a list of 4 or 5 alternate beers because they would always invariably be out of your first choice.

Also, if you will be in Georgetown I highly recommend Pizzeria Paradiso. I try to make it a point to eat a pie there every time I’m in the area. Quite an extensive beer list too.

Put pizza and craft beers together and you can’t go wrong.

I was at Tom’s aforementioned bachelor party in said DC area, but honestly, all I can reaaaally remember is eating at the ESPN zone which was pretty fun if you dig arcades (which I do). And the stripper who I talked to about Linux for an hour instead of getting a lapdance. Everything else is pretty hazy.
