Memorial Day Weekend
I see there was little action on theScrabbled over the weekend. Good for us! How did you all spend it?
I went on some major bicycle rides. I hiked at Hacklebarney State Park (up in Clinton). There was plenty of grilling and lounging in the sun. I didn’t make it to the beach unfortunately.
Comments
Friday: i ate duck tongue and jellyfish with john and co.
Sat: we ate delicious food at our bbq
Sun: Ryan and I spent 6 hours in the ER due to him having bad vertigo
Mon: went to Phillies game where my awesome sign was NOT put on the jumbotron or TV >:0
Overall, it was a good weekend! Very eventful and full of good food at least :)
Friday: Nothing.
Saturday: went to NYC for Shake Shack, the Phillies at new Yankee Stadium, then met up with some friends at a few bars in around the Lower East Side.
Sunday: had an amazing room service breakfast at the hotel, then drove back to south jersey to BBQ at my aunt’s
Monday: dim sum brunch with my parents followed by outlet shopping
Friday: aforementioned Duck tongue and jellyfish (disappointingly bland, both), followed by a Luke and Rachel abduction on the part of Ryan because my house chose not to be found.
Saturday: Team Fortress 2 (spy and sniper updates!) followed by BBQ at Dawn and Ryan’s followed by more TF2.
Sunday: TF2, dinner at Osteria, Dan and Dan’s, TF2.
Monday: TF2.
Friday: picked up Chicago friend from airport, eventually wandered into center city, got drunk.
Saturday: acted lazy for early part of day, went to see Terminator movie, had people come over to drink heavily at my house, watched atrocious 90’s movie “Airborne” for laughs.
Sunday: dropped off friend at airport, played a lot of Fallout 3, sat around, wandered to my friends’ house down the street for late night hang outage.
Monday: mild tech support, drank a lot of coffee, went down the street for BBQish times at friends’ house, watched “Uncle Sam” (guy dressed as Uncle Sam kills a bunch of people) and “Memorial Valley Massacre” (inbred hillbilly murders campers on holiday).
friday: had an awful dinner with john and co. sorry guys. my stomach churned the whole night and i almost threw up. i went to dave’s afterward and me him brittany and karl drove to the lighthouse in barnegat to climb on the jetty and explore the beach

sunday: watched phils, watched to catch a predator marathon
monday: worked two memorial day parades, had awesome seats at the phils game
Today: wishing I were home playing TF2.
Christina, I gotta wonder how much of that is psychological. In that I expect all of it is. I’m not defending the quality of the food, cause I don’t think it was good, either, but your stomach problems sound like hooey. I ate everything on the table and was fine.

i was definitely gonna amend what i said after i wrote it. my apologies. i came into the night not very hungry – a combination of a big lunch + woman problems. seeing cold, slimy jellyfish on that plate did not help. the smells were atrocious. that wasn’t psychological. i think that’s what really did me in. the whole experience was not a positive one.

See, I’ll disagree with you there. I thought it was lots of fun in that it was so totally weird and felt very much like entering an alternate universe for a little bit. I felt like a tourist. The food wasn’t good, but the company, conversation, and overall spirit of experimentation was fun.
Friday: oil change, laundry, dinner in Hoboken (meh).
Saturday: several hours of wandering solo around NYC, broken up by stops at Tompkins Square Park and Union Square to watch people/dogs and read. Belgian beers with some friends at Vol de Nuit, one of my favorite bars in the city and the only thing that makes the West Village mildly tolerable.
Sunday: batting cages and FIFA ’09. Sunday night was supposed to be devoted to brewing (Dusseldorf style Alt ingredients have been procured), but plans changed due to the homecoming of a friend. Drinks (fucking expensive drinks) in Soho led to some fun conversation and a date at a Cuban restaurant later this week though, so all is well. Sweet fight on the Jitney ride home as well. MS 13 bro… (I can elaborate on this in another post if anyone is interested)
Monday: punk-rock softball w/Evan in Hazlet. BBQ with the family.
Very, very content with my weekend. My feet hurt, my hands are blistered, I’m exhausted and out a few hundred bucks, but it’s all well worth it.

i’m interested.
friday: out of work early enough to catch a nap at home before Bonnie Prince Billy @ the Troc. good show, got drunk, but had to leave early because our last train was @ 11:47. stupid 9pm start times – POINTLESS. also, fuck the people who get to the show after it starts and then nestle in at our feet in the front row of the balcony – jerks.
saturday: slept-in, had lunch @ Trolley Car Diner, bought ingredients to make dessert for Sunday, baked Cherry Angelfood Cake Roll & Chocolate Fudge Peanut Butter Cake Roll, made homemade stovetop popcorn (awesome), drank mix & match 6-pack, watched Phillies lose.
sunday: watched Man Utd win a semi-pointless match, went to a family BBQ and got drunky, went to Otts Berlin w/kev & my sister where kev & i got hit-on by a guy who liked our musical selections.
monday: went to the Turnersville Auto Mall and looked at cars for hours before settling upon a few surprising “new” choices within our price range, had lunch with kev & my sister and running into Trish’s sisters (at lunch, not in the car).

Well, the Jitney we (all the Weehawken folks) take home from the city is always an adventure. We’re the first stop out of the tunnel, but the buses continue on through Union City (and some to Paterson) to give you an idea of the passenger demographics. There is always a bunch of fun, usually light-hearted banter going on because of the diversity amongst the passengers. The late night rides are always especially interesting because pretty much everyone on the bus is drunk and tired.
Long story short, some dude got on the bus and ended up touching a girl kind of inappropriately as he was sitting down. She took offense, started yelling at the guy in angry Spanglish, waking up her boyfriend in the process. It looked like everything was going to calm down at one point (I was holding the b/f back and trying to get him to relax and a bunch of other people on the bus were intervening as well), but the original guy was just looking for trouble. He ended up pushing the girl and all hell broke loose.
The b/f lost it (rightfully so) when he saw his girlfriend get pushed, and they both lunged at and started beating the troublemaker guy. This was going on in the back row of the bus, so most of the other people either jumped off or pushed to the front to avoid suffering any collateral damage. The bad guy took a pretty good beating from the couple and was eventually dragged off the bus amidst a stream of cursing and threats about “MS-13 bro!”.
Harry and I did what every self-respecting nerdy, not-down white guy would do and immediately Googled “MS-13” on his iPhone. We found that link above, thanked our lucky stars for not having been shanked, and went on our merry way. I’m hoping the MS-13 threat was an idle one, because if the Jitney becomes an unsafe mode of transport I’ll have very little reason to stay in Weehawken.

really? smells? what are you talking about you baby.
and the jellyfish… it didn’t look anything like jellyfish. it looked like cellophane noodles or something. if i didn’t know it was jellyfish, i never would have guessed from looking at it. ever.

all i know is i sat there, and smelling whatever it was that was emanating into my nose, was awful. maybe it was the combination of jellyfish + duck tongue + slimy chicken + scallops. i ain’t no baby. but i ain’t eatin jellyfish. sorry.
i will eat a piece of fried calimari, but i can’t eat it if it looks like a squid.
