A beginner's guide to soft shell crabs.
Despite steamed crabs being my absolute, no-contest favorite food on earth, I had my first soft shell last year. It was a good thing.

So, according to the pictures, you just fry up and eat the entire crab? I’m assuming the shell is palatable because it is soft? What about all of the other creepy googly guts and stuff? That did not look appetizing at all…
You clean under “the apron” so there are no guts or whatever in there, but yep. That’s pretty much how it works.
Some weirdo Maryland peopl elike the guts anyhow. I’ve tried it… it’s not bad.

I do, but it would be more fitting for us to bring them to you. Warmer waters = better, bigger crabs. The best on the east coast from the Chesapeake Bay in MA. Most of the crab guys and seafood places around us get their supply shipped up from there.
Ok, well fuck off then. I’ll bring some live lobsters and we’ll race them before throwing them on the grill.
