Your Top 5 Most Fun Songs
That’s right. Fun. No snobbery here. What songs make you grin and laugh and run around and feel like a little kid again?
Comments
I tried making a list of five, but when I thought of Andrew WK’s “Party Hard”, that is really in a league of its own. There really is no other song that makes me run around and grin like that song. The crunchy guitars, the bright pianos, everything.
So, that is my #1 Most Fun Song. Maybe I’ll come up with 4 others eventually, but it will be hard.
You need to post yours first so we know that the “fun. No snobbery here.” clause is for real.
Or else after everyone else gets done posting like Jackson 5’s “ABC” or Hanson’s “Mmmbop” or something you’ll be on here talking about how Terry Riley’s “In C” or Merzbow’s “Modular/Postfix” are yours because they remind you of when you were young and silly or some such thing.

We need more people who like making fun of Hutch since currently the only people who make fun of him on my board are… well, everyone. You need to post yours first so we know that the “fun. ahahahahhaha, I love this thread. Ok, mine:
- Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta
- The Beatles – All Together Now
- Squirrel Nut Zippers = Got My Own Thing Now
- R.E.M – Stand
- Green Day – Longview
Runner up: Grieg’s in the Hall of the Mountain King. My sister and I wore the grooves off our “Classical Music for Kids” album and we even had our own little dance routine for In the Hall.
Wow, some love for Flagpole Sitta. Whenever I mention that I still love that song (or that I liked it in the first place) I get weird looks. And that would probably end up being in my top 5 as well. I’d add
- REO Speedwagon – “Keep On Loving You”
- Bjork- “Army of Me”
- Violent Femmes “I Held Her In My Arms”
- LL Cool J “Mama Said Knock You Out”
Of the top of me head I would go for
What’s This – The one from ‘A Nightmare Before Christmas’
Happy Talk – Captain Sensible
Empire State Human – Human League
Song 2 – Blur
Here Comes the Mayo – Molotov Vs Dub Pistols
And pretty much anything by the Buzzcocks
This will probably change if I put more thought into it.
I haven’t listened to Andrew W.K. since he was big back in the early ‘thousands. I just gave the first track a go and that was enough to make me think everyone here is absolutely wrong in anything that doesn’t make it onto his album I Get Wet.
Jesus Christ I’m glad I didn’t really listen to this when it was popular, simply because I can enjoy the fuck out of it now, by myself.
I’ve never heard an Andrew WK song other than Party Hard, but was always really suspect of the sincerity of his positive mental outlook, live life on 10 shtick.
But then I read on another messageboard about how the singer of a hardcore band who died had always said he wanted Andrew WK to play his funeral, so the guys friends actually reached out to his management and sure enough he rearranged his schedule, came to the funeral and was apparently really conscious of being respectful to the guys family and non music-scene relatives, and paid his respects and sat at a piano and played some classical music while people paid their respects. What I read about it was obviously not a publicity thing since this was just detailed on a message board but it just seemed to confirm to me that if it was true then he was pretty much the real deal.
I still don’t think I really get his music but then again I’m probably the absolute polar opposite of a positive mental outlook type of guy.
I think I was drunk when I wrote this. Not because I disagree that any of the songs I originally ranked are fun — I definitely don’t and they definitely are — but they’re just so random. Pretty sure I can come up with a better list, though I’m also pretty sure Flagpole Sitta will still be on it. What a great song.
I guess I didn’t see this post originally.
- POTUSA – “Peaches” (or really, the whole album)
- Vampire Weekend – “Mansard Roof” (goddamn that drumming!)
- Animal Collective – “Who Could Win A Rabbit”
- Beach Boys – “Help Me, Rhonda”
- Who ever sings the Wahtusi
- Beyonce – “Countdown”
- Davey, Dee, Nicky and Bing (ahaha or something like that) – “Hold Tight” (it’s on the Death Proof soundtrack)
This list could go on really…
I’d like to revise my list to now include:
- All My Friends by LCD Soundsystem
- Stay Useless by Cloud Nothings (have we talked about this band on here? I thought we did but couldn’t find a thread anywhere)
- Bloodbuzz Ohio by the National
- We Found Love by Rhianna (I have a 10 year old daughter so I’m ending up listening to a lot more pop music, and I’m not even someone who was pop averse to begin with so……)
