Pogs were fun...yet boring...
…yet currency?
After happening upon a relatively large collection of Pogs from back in the day buried deep in the garage, a few friends and I decided to bring them along with us to Tattooed Mom’s for arts and crafts sunday (where, if you’ve never been, you can make an old-school Mr. Potato Head with a real potato and googly eyes a’la Christopher Walken) and play with them.
After realizing exactly how boring the actual game is, we hit the internet to discover any other fun uses.
Apparently Pogs were used as currency overseas during Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

I never got into Pogs. It’s funny to think back on it, but there was a rift in the Washington Township middle schools when Pogs were big. Chestnut Ridge was big into Pogs (so big, they got banned). Orchard Valley, my middle school, was into Magic: The Gathering. Magic was generally considered a more serious and sober game — one for young adults. Anyone found playing Pogs was usually ridiculed with, “What are you, 10?!” or something to that effect. Somehow the nerdiness of Magic was never really a factor.
