Firefox problem

“Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.”

I don’t know if this affects you Mac users, but does anyone else have this problem with Firefox? I get the message almost every time I start the program. Apparently the firefox.exe process continues to run even after closing the browser, so in order to start a new session you have to go into the task manager and kill the process. It’s easy enough, but annoying. I can’t seem to find a conclusive fix online anywhere either. Anyone have any ideas?

i have had it happen a few times with Windows, but it’s always been easy enough to kill it with the TM that it’s never annoyed me much.

I only ever have it happen if I close firefox and try to reopen within 4 or 5 seconds of closing. Otherwise, no.

i’m not on windows. firefox just gets pissy with me if i keep it open for too long. then suddenly i can’t scroll or push buttons or type anything. it stops loading images. i can’t close the window and have to force quit. grargh.

I also only get it if I immediately try to go back in.

I’ve never gotten that particular error, but having a mac has made me really hate Firefox. I wouldn’t use it at all were it not for my inherent laziness, since I rely too much on the history in the browser bar to get to my most visited sites, and Safari doesn’t have this.

What do you hate about firefox on the mac? I use Firefox 3 and it works flawlessly.

Also, Kev, you should grab the Safari 4 beta. I think it’ll solve your laziness issues.

It just constantly does that thing I mentioned a while back where it loads pages with no pictures or in a simple text format. And sometimes if I click on bookmarks it just doesn’t load at all. It usually resolves when I do a full close/quit but it’s still a pain.

Have you upgraded to Firefox 3? I had those issues with 2, but they’ve long since gone away.
