I realize that Obama hasn’t taken office yet, and that the new session of congress hasn’t started with all the new senators, reps, etc. So I’ll reserve judgement. But what I’m seeing and hearing so far isn’t very heartening. All this talk of tax cuts to appease the republicans, and the republicans flapping their gums about their newfound love of the fillibuster and bipartisanship and the dems acting like they need to cave to these threats. Seriously, what a bunch of spineless shits they really are turning out to be. They are going to have a fucking 59 seat majority in the Senate and they are talking about bipartisanship and what they need to do to get republicans on board. Make the republicans fillibuster over their petty bullshit that the majority of americans disagree with by large numbers and then get your (democrats) mugs on every tv show and newspaper talking about how the republicans are obstructing economic recovery.

Why are they so bad at politics? How is an entire fucking party so bad at the one thing they’re supposed to be good at?

I’m convinced (or should I say I’ve been convinced based off reading people more knowledgable at such things than myself) that it’s the insulated, incestuous washington insider mentality that keeps them so cut off from what the actual people of america think and so focused on the media which is similarly insider and sticks to these completely outmoded ways of thinking (Republicans strong, Democrats weak, tax cuts good, social programs and infrastructure bad). No matter how many polls show that the american people more agree with core democratic/liberal principles than do the core republican/conservative (I should specify what the core republicans have become ie pro-evangelical christian and pro-big corporation above all else), the beltway media (cable news, Sunday talk shows) all report these old canards as though they still applied and haven’t bothered to learn any new lessons. The democrats just internalize this stuff to no end and act upon it no matter how much evidence and polling there is to show that the exact opposite is true.

The problem is that our current crop of Democrats really do like to play fair, and are usually too ashamed to make stupid, incredulous arguments.

Sometimes I think they need a little more Machiavelli and a little less Mr. Rogers.

I think you’re right, Jason. But the problem is they’re more worried with playing fair with each other than playing fair with the American people. I honestly think that to Democrats the little club of the Senate is more important to them than the actual ideals of their party and the interests of the american people. Say what you will about the republicans, and whether they actually believe their shtick or no, at least they without fail fight for the needs and wants of their base of support (corporations, evangelicals, etc.). Yeah, it may be crass and self serving rather than out of a specific belief that it’s what’s right but they do it without fail. The Democrats don’t seem to yet get that. I honestly think they’re more concerned with what gets said about them on cable news and on the Sunday talk shows and in e-mail forwards than they are about what the public and worse yet what their core constituencies feel about them.
