People under age 30-35’s hatred of u2 is one of those things that I can totally understand, totally sympathize with and don’t begrudge at all, but it still bums me out because in their prime (up to and including Achtung Baby) they were just amazing and unparalleled live and pretty much almost every indie band today would not exist or would sound drastically and dramatically different without the influence of their earlier stuff. However, that’s one of those things that’s impossible to convince someone of when they’re being inundated with Bono’s smug visage at every turn and their 4th rate crappy songs being played everywhere and being used to schill everything under the sun and even I can admit taints everything of worth they may have done previously.
Yeah, it’s not blind hatred of U2. I like their early stuff just fine, and was a fan growing up. But I can’t stand anything from their last couple of albums. Not to mention the overexposure every song gets. They’ll get ITunes commercials, play of SportsCenter highlights, play during NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB commercials, movie trailers, play at the stadiums, etc.
in theory i care about m. ward and i might listen to it. lilly allen will have one really catchy single with a funny video but i still won’t pay attention to her record. i listen to the decemberists every once in a while, but have never felt really compelled to listen to them, so new records don’t mean anything. i’ve hated u2 for twenty years and that isn’t going to change with a new record either.
i have a headache and am extra bitter right now, so i guess i shouldn’t be on the internet.
