A Mix Concept
I’m going to make a mix CD soon, for no particular reason really, but for myself. I just want it to be high energy. There are a few bands from 2008 that fall under that category and it’s what got me thinking.
So far: Marnie Stern, Ponytail, Soil & “Pimp” Sessions, Lightning Bolt.
Thought this would be a nice thing to discuss. I’m just looking for something fast and steady and wild. Try your best to avoid any hardcore because I really don’t like that genre too much. I’m sure I’ll think of more myself when I get home and scan my library.

Well, you’re definitely missing some Battles.
I have a playlist at work called “Knee Shaking” that I use to get pumped up for programming. Some stuff you need from that:
- TV on the Radio – The Wrong Way (great to start it out)
- Bloc Party
- LCD Soundsystem
- Justice
- Underworld. Tons of Underworld.
- Broken Social Scene – 7/4 (Shoreline)
- Elvis Costello – Pump It Up
- The Strokes – The Modern Age
- The Ramones
- Bad Religion
- Q and Not U
- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
- Death From Above 1979
- Sonic Youth – Incinerate
- Figurines – All Night
Hopethis helps.
I’m guessing you’re going to want the faster stuff. It’s hard to say how their style changes as they get older, so here’s a few tracks worth getting from various eras:
- *dubnobasswithmyheadman
- Cowgirl
- Spoonman
- Second Toughest of Infants
- Rowla
- Pearl’s Girl
- Beaucoup Fish
- King of Snake
- Jumbo
- Moaner
- A Hundred Days Off
- Mo’ Move
- Two Months Off
- Dinosaur Adventure 3D
I’m thinking the latter stuff off Hundred Days and Beacoup will be more up your alley, but who knows.
I didn’t finish your noise mix, but I’m uploading some of the shit I pulled into a playlist last night.
