Christmas albums

‘Tis the season, and looking through my music collection I’ve concluded that I need to stock up on these. I only have the Saddle Creek Christmas (basically a Conor Oberst Christmas album), a Tony Bennett jazz christmas album, and the Charlie Brown Christmas.

I’m looking to expand.

What are some of your favorites, and why?

i got the Crooners Christmas collection thing on itunes last year and aside from the occasional Michael Buble slip-up, it’s awesome. i love the old classic singers and songs.

Other than the Charlie Brown Christmas album, I’ve never heard a full album of Christmas songs I’ve liked. Unless you count the Nutcracker?

I just did my annual scrabbled holiday task which is uploading a folder chock full of non-traditional Christmas music or traditional Christmas music covered by non-traditional artists for anyone who is interested.

In particular the John Fahey songs are really good, off the beaten path renditions.

Ive had to listen to Jonny Mathis’ xmas album every year so it has grown on me. If I don’t hear it, it doesn’t feel like xmas.
