The whole album is streaming, not just the song “Chinese Democracy”. I’ll have a full review later — if i can make it through the album!
I’m tunneling myself a torrent right now. I’m almost embarassed to admit, but I didn’t want to listen to it in a format that last.fm wouldn’t track. I need a record of my experience, damnit!
HAHA, Chuck Klosterman’s review in the <a href=“http://www.avclub.com/content/feature/chuck_klosterman_reviews?utm_source=avclub_rss_daily”;AV Club starts like this:
Reviewing Chinese Democracy is not like reviewing music. It’s more like reviewing a unicorn. Should I primarily be blown away that it exists at all? Am I supposed to compare it to conventional horses? To a rhinoceros? Does its pre-existing mythology impact its actual value, or must it be examined inside a cultural vacuum, as if this creature is no more (or less) special than the remainder of the animal kingdom? I’ve been thinking about this record for 15 years; during that span, I’ve thought about this record more than I’ve thought about China, and maybe as much as I’ve thought about the principles of democracy. This is a little like when that grizzly bear finally ate Timothy Treadwell: Intellectually, he always knew it was coming. He had to. His very existence was built around that conclusion. But you still can’t psychologically prepare for the bear who eats you alive, particularly if the bear wears cornrows.
I don’t see why we’re giving this the time of day. What are everyone’s expectations?
Because it’s been talked about for so long. It’s a part of the zeitgeist. My expectations are that it’ll be shitty.
My expectations were dead on. I hate this.
I never liked Guns n Roses to begin with, and Axl Rose’s voice makes my brain hurt, so I’m expecting to not listen to it anymore than the shitty title track I already heard.
As long as I don’t have to hear about it ever again, now it’s been released.
I really like a couple songs.
I already forget what the rest of them sound like.
I can’t believe Chuck Klosterman actually liked it. Without having heard it, I’m honestly surprised anyone liked it.
I didn’t like them when they were first out. His voice is grating, like nails on a chalkboard or Sarah Palin.
I dig it. but ive always been the antiscrabbled member. picking it up on vinyl tomorrow.
i like most of it. couldve gone lighter on the production. im luke warm on two or three of the tracks that are meant to be heavy. (off the top of my head id say riad, irs, and shacklers revenge)
oh man, i was just paralyzed with laughter over a quote i just spied on the side bar when i caught my name in it:
John: ” I challenge any of you to a game of Monopoly Proper.”
Derrick: “And I challenge you to get through a work week without crying.
