On Mixtape Attack
So the site’s up and running. Obviously it’s a bit incomplete, but the core functionality is there. The question is (to those of you interested in participating int he site at all): what does it still need?
Feel free to sign up and play around on http://mixtapeattack.r08.railsrumble.com/
When you sign up, you’ll be sent an email to activate your account. The activation email goes to example.com/blahblah. just be sure to replace example.com with http://mixtapeattack.r08.railsrumble.com/ in the link before you try to log in. Once you’ve registered, comment here and I’ll upgrade your user to an editor so you can contribute album reviews. Just do me a favor and if you sign up to play around, don’t purposefully try to break the site by, say, entering things you’d never actually enter or what have you. We can do that later. I want it to not break for the next week or two while the railsrumble judges are looking it over.
Below are some things we’d planned on doing but didn’t get a chance to do. Let me know what you think of them (specifically, if you think they’re good or bad ideas and if you think they need to be ready before any sort of official launch). Also, let me know if you think this list is missing anything, either should-haves or needs-to-haves.
- Searchable and sortable reviews page (what you get when you click "read more reviews).
- Staff page with each editor having their own mini page, bio, and pic and a list of all their reviews.
- Clicking a genre gives you a list of all albums in that genre.
- On ratings:
- A “contention” score that shows if a particular album is especially loved/hated.
- Allowing non-editors to rate albums (but not review them) and giving a “regular user” rating under our more prestigious “editor rating.” (A note on this: eventually I’d like the site to be able to learn what sort of stuff you like a la netflix and recommend other albums for you based on what genre or band or what a particular reviewer you have a lot in common with thought)
- Best recent albums/most recent contentious albums mini-lists on front page, maybe sub pages with longer lists.
- Album/artist search.
- A one-sentence summary review that must be written in addition to the full review. THis will be used for front-page or album-page review summaries, as well as a quick synopsis of what you thought before you read the review.
Well?
