Anyone been to Tampa?
I’m probably going to try to get tickets to games 1 and 2 of the World Series and fly down to Tampa to root on the Phillies in person, the first time in an opponent’s stadium. It’ll probably work out to be cheaper to do all of that and see 2 games than it is to go to one game here in decent seats. Just didn’t know if there is anything cool down there to occupy my time in between. I think the stadium is technically in St. Petersburg, so the whole surrounding area.

I actually went to the trop a few years back, and the St. Pete/Tampa area is quite nice. In Tampa, you could go the aquarium, which is a lot nicer than the one in Camden, though not as nice as Baltimores. The marina there is nice, with a few decent places to eat there. By the train station was (this is back in ’99, my first time down there) a 5 square mile go-kart theme park with dozens of different tracks and kart types to drive.
It’s a lovely city and if you can go down, do it. You’ll enjoy it.
My band played a show at some shithole in the shadow of the stadium back in 2001, and I definitely remember the area being very shady. This is the case for most stadiums, though, as they tend to build them on the outskirts of towns as part of revitalization efforts. I would assume that the place has improved a lot, though, and that it would be far less “scary” with shitloads of people there.
I have no recommendations for things to do, we got the hell out of there as quickly as we could.
