Britt is in Cleveland
This past Sunday, my sister, Britt, her (not)boyfriend, Steve, and their dog loaded up their $3,000 RV that they bought and fixed up and set off on a four month road trip to California. They apparently have plans to hit several locations across the US, stay with lots of of people, and then sell their RV in California to buy plane tickets to Hawaii. Once they’re in Hawaii, they’ll be using couchhoppers.com to find couches to sleep on until they get jobs and find their own place.
Wish ‘em luck and hope they don’t die.

I’m not gonna lie, I would think about using something like couchhoppers. Great sleeping experience? Probably not. But great stories? Absolutely. If not for my hostel experiences, I would’ve missed the 50-year-old woman who flashed me her gray bush while rolling over in the opposite bunk bed. Now THAT is a heartwarming story to tell the grandkids someday.
I googled “Knife City” just to see if I came up with anything and found this gem: http://www.itsnotagame.org/
PS: Good luck Britt and quasi-boyfriend-guy!
Actually they made that into a game

At least gun crime is still relatively low in Britain – If we had more than 5 shootings, shootings not deaths, in Manchester in 12 months there would be uproar in the media.
Oh and I am pretty sure that Britt and her fellow traveler will have a time and a half, maybe it will not always be the best times but she will have a gazillion stories to tell on her return.
Kev – who cannot log in here anymore
a few people i knew had chances to be transferred to Hawaii with pretty well-paying jobs and figured out that they still wouldn’t really be able to afford it. i hope they have sellable job skills and more money to fly there than just selling an RV. i’d imagine on-the-spot flights to hawaii to be fairly pricey. that, plus the negative attitude of a lot of native hawaiians towards newcomers looking to settle there. good luck.
Got a text, they’re in Iowa tonight. They’re parking in Walmart parking lots, since it’s free, Walmart lets people do that, and cops watch out for campers.
The couch site is http://www.couchsurfing.com/
It’s pretty interesting the way people get rated both as a surfer and the couch owner, but still scares me.
She’s in Nebraska today, going to carhenge…
