I Heart iTunes Genius

Has anyone been using this new feature in iTunes very much? While some of the song selections are certainly questionable and despite the occasional annoyance of it not knowing a song, I’ve heard so much music from my own library that I’ve never listened to that I’m really enjoying. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the collected data of the next few months/years alters the song selection.

I’ve been using it, and while I agree that some song selections are sketchy and/or questionable, I have really enjoyed the feature as well.

It’s like a Party Shuffle, but with parameters… like I don’t go from Bad Religion to Jim Croce in the same playlist.

I just tried doing it and after taking a while to gather my library information it then tries to transmit and have Apple do what it does with the data but it keeps timing out on me and telling me to check my settings.

Yeah…I keep trying. It gathers the data, sends the data and then gets 1/4 to half way to delivering my results and then it gives me the connection timed out error.

Well, looks like someone pulled up a seat at the genius bar.

I was pretty dubious about this feature, but it’s working out really well. It manages to rustle up a bunch of songs that sound somewhat similar in spirit and usually a few things that I’ve rarely, if ever, bothered to listen to.

It should really be called the “I’m Busy Working, So Just Gimme Some Music That Doesn’t Suck or Annoy Me” Button.

Yeah this is neat. The selections are based off of user patterns of the past? Or strictly the genre/ratings that I do?

I don’t think they’re telling.

I finally got this damn thing to work. It’s pretty random and seems to just go mostly by genre, which is fine. The only thing I don’t like is that it tends to have too many multiple songs by the artist you select in the first place. And yeah, many of the selections are just plain out of left field. I can definitely see myself using it more for playlist selections than anything else.

I still can’t get over your hair in that picture.
