As big as you want. It does it’s own cropping and resizing. It’s not very SMART cropping and resizing, though, it just goes out from the center.

Interesting. It seems to create the thumbnails on upload. So, like, just now I added comment avatars that’re a bit smaller. But mine wasn’t coming up and Paris’ wasn’t. So I had to reupload my avatar to have it generate the tiny ones. So anyone who has already added one should do it again… sorry!
