I heard about these, but the videos aren’t playing for me. Damnit! I feel like being enraged!

I was annoyed when I saw the first one, the party one but after the second one, the Popsicle one, I got it. What is wrong with high fructose corn syrup, or any other fun thing, in moderation? Is life worth living without a Popsicle once in awhile?

Make your own popsicles! Better tasting and better for you.

i get their point about consuming it (hey i still do the dew when i get the urge), but there are so many questionable/bad things about it aside from moderate ingestion that i find the ads super annoying.

why the fuck does it have to be in bread and ketchup and the like? it’s not added to much in england, at least not the last time i looked at english ingredients.

adding to sweet things, i can maybe see. adding it to multigrain wheat crackers?? NO.

because corn is subsidized and, thus, hfcs is cheap. and because of that corn is in everything. seriously. the american diet has been pretty much reduced to nothing but refined corn and soybeans. it’s even in the animals we eat.

i’m okay with corn being in my food and even soybeans. i mean, that shit is healthy. but why must something so overly processed and sickly sweet be jammed into absolutely everything? just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it needs to be thrown into every goddamn bit of food we eat. ugh.

corn=okay, hfcs=wtf/why?

i am just more and more inclined to start making my on bread and crackers and such.

no way. corn and soy (and wheat and rice for that matter) being in everything is the farthest thing from healthy. historically humans have consumed thousands of different edible species. and now the american/western diet has pretty much reduced it to about four processed ingredients.

no no no i meant those things by themselves. i always thought that stuff was like, kind of the basis for healthy in its fairly natural form? is eating fresh corn and edamame bad? because that’s what i was talking about. i guess i just worded it weirdly and incorrectly. maybe i’m wrong…

If your diet consisted of nothing but fresh corn and edamame, then yes. It’s incredibly unhealthy. Carbons and proteins as generated by certain foods have certain signatures and we need a variety of these signatures or our cells start to fuck up. It’s much more complicated than that, of course, but that’s the short version.

Basically, nutriontionism is a junk science scam and the best thing we can do is eat a large variety of whole, unprocessed foods.

Pollan gets in your head, man.

well, no shit on that. i’m not an idiot and i do eat other things, hence i am not dead. i was just trying to make a point that corn is healthy. soybeans are healthy. veggies and greens and all that. basically it’s stupid to take something naturally good for you and fuck it up in a factory so much that it’s indistinguishable from its original form and even THEN to throw it in everything else we eat.

Oh, I misread. I thought you were saying that it’s fine that it’s in everything. I reread and it makes sense now.

So… yes. I concur.

I saw King Corn; I know how bad too much corn is for you. But what’s wrong with HFCS in moderation? The commercial isn’t telling you to only eat HFCS just like a beer commercial isn’t telling you to only drink beer. What’s the difference between this commercial and a beef or egg commercial?

if corn is in everything, there is no moderation.

Here’s an interesting blog post about this that discusses an aspect I hadn’t really thought about (corn subsidies). So basically we’re paying twice to be made fatter.
