The Dodos
Tribal drumming, multiple vocal tracks, crazily strum acoustic guitars… sound like someone in particular? Yes. Yes it does, though perhaps with a bit more structure and ROCK and a little less weirdness. And that’s why I like it. A little less off the wall, sometimes even reminds me of Plants and Animals. Very good stuff.

Uh…can a brother either get some credit for telling you to check out this album months ago when it first came out, or an apology for you ignoring me when I told you to check out this album m months ago when it first came out?
Although I don’t see the Animal Collective thing at all to be honest with you.
John said:Also, tell me the first minute of “Fools” couldn’t have come right off Sung Tongs. Tell me that and I’ll tell you you’re a crazy person. Or deaf.
Yeah, so what I did was turn it off, and put on “The Purple Bottle” instead.
This album just falls short because all I think about it how much better Animal Collective does it. Visiter just isn’t fresh enough. It’s how I felt when this album first came up, and it’s how I feel again now.
I’m a dude, he’s a dude, she’s a dude, hey, we’re all dudes.
You see, I get my structure and rock from other outlets already. So if I hear something resembling Animal Collective’s style, I want the weirdness that comes with it. Also, there world beats aren’t quite creative enough and there aren’t any layered vocals! Thanks though, for I am now taking a Feels adventure.
I bet one of the members of Hold Steady is raging on his message board about how he hates going to his favorite Applebees franchise location because they keep pumping this music over the speakers. He’s just trying to enjoy his fried cheese while praising the special features on the fourth season DVD set of “The World According to Jim”… but he can’t ignore it. He can’t block it out. It’s there and it’s awful and it makes him want to think about being able to fight people.
I spun this around again and I think here’s my deal with the Animal Collective thing: I didn’t like Animal Collective’s earlier more folky stuff. I like the more recent weirdo, loopy, electronic based stuff including and especially the Panda Bear solo record. So I guess because the Dodos are more organic/acoustic/whatever, and I like what they do versus when Animal Collective did it, that’s where I think I wasn’t seeing the connection. Either way, it’s still a great album.
