Julia has overdosed on nerds

I've got a question for all of you!

Does anyone know how to convert a Sony Vegas file into a Flash file?

I think there are free Flash converters online, so any advice as far as how to go about it, and which converter to use will help!

Thanks

im pretty sure vegas is sonys editing software, and im assuming you mean whatever was worked on in sony vegas, and i also assume that sony vegas should atleast allow you to export as an avi, or an mov file that you can then import into flash. but im assuming a lot here, so i assume im wrong.

You’re assuming correctly, on all parts. Any suggestions?

as long as you already have flash, i would just export the video file as an uncompressed avi file, and then import into flash – as in the actual program (if you have it). you can set in there what you would like the max file size to be.

i recently did a test of converting a video to all the typical video formats for the web and flash actually came out if not the best then at least second best so even at around 400 to 450 mbs the video quality should turn out pretty good.

Awesome, thanks! Do you have any suggestions as far as what converter to use? I’m going for ease here.

you need to use your editing software to export the file as an avi

open flash. import the video file under import video. choose something like 400kbps under profile, push it to 700 if you really need to, but flash might assign the video quality a limit of 400 and then tack on the audio which will then make your file size a lot bigger than you thought it would…. actually that might be just quicktime, but if you end up with a larger file, that should explain.

under video for codec pick On2 VP6. that one works pretty good.

once you fill in all the other settings you want, at the end it should give you the option to add buttons for play, rewind, volume, ect…

when its done and you are looking at a blank flash screen just hit control+enter and you should see the finished movie in the test screen.

im pretty sure ive covered everything (but i dont have it in front of me, so im working from memory). and like i said, it can all be done in flash, no need to use another program to handle the conversion. unless you dont have flash, that is.

my experience is with flash itself. if your not using flash, try going to download.com and type in flash converter. i just saw a bunch show up on there, but be sure to read the description because the first few were to convert flash files into something else, not the other way around.

If you have adobe cs3, it should come with “flash video encoder” that’ll do the converting for you. If you dont’ have CS3, you should email me so I can send you a link.

that is also true, though i never use it. i think i was beaten by a horrible flash video encoder as a child.

if i remember correctly it works exactly like the import option in flash and following what i typed above will yield the same result.
