The Best iPod Dock
I’m going to do some online research on my own. But I always like hearing your stupid opinions on things so: does anyone own a portable iPod audio system (dock and speakers, you know)?
Does it charge the iPod when plugged in? How long does a full charge last? Is it a separate volume from the iPod’s volume (so you can save iPod energy)? How loud does it get? What was the cost? Are you happy? Have you heard of better? Anything weird or particular to say about the one you’ve got?
I might get one, I might not, who knows.

yes it charges the ipod when plugged in. a full charge lasts as long as it would hooked up to your compy. yes, it’s a separate volume from the ipod. it gets pretty loud actually but i only use it for my bedroom so i never really had to make it loud. it was about $100 but i’m sure prices and even models have changed. i’m not happy with it anymore because it doesn’t fucking play my ipod and i don’t know why. the part where the bottom of the ipod goes into the connectors just looks so cheap and flimsy and it stands up and god forbid you knock it down, you break the ihome AND the ipod. i much rather would have an axillary like we have set up downstairs that just plugs into the ipod, but i assume you’re going for convenience.
If you’ve got the cash to burn, Bose SoundDock is pretty nice. Sound’s as good as you can expect from Bose, and it charges.
If you’re on a budget, and you don’t mind it not charging, pick up some jump cables (they’re like 5 bucks – Cheap!) You can plug it in to most any stereo receiver or portable radio. I’ve not seen many without an AV imput jack. Even my old Sony CD Boombox had one. I’ve even seen it done on a TV.
Oh, and if you buy an Ihome thing like the one above, a little tip. Your ipod will sound better if you keep the backlight on. Same deal with any FM Transmitters you may have in your car.
On a side note, my girlfriend has the one that christina posted a pic of and it operates on the same frequency as my tv remote. So sometimes when i turn up the volume on my tv, the radio turns on which is annoying.
So yeah, watch out for that..you know, in addition to my warning about taking the Bose dock on your one night stands with Christina.
i have the HoMedics iSoundSpa. it has not-so-hot reviews, but honestly everything bad thing that people say about has not happened to mine. i’ve had it since last december and it works brilliantly.
it projects the time onto the opposite wall or ceiling, plays a bunch of nature sounds, charges the ipod as well as plays it, and the dock itself comes with about 6 different adapters so that every model of ipod will fit on it. helpful, since we have 3 models. the sound is pretty good and it has am/fm and 2 alarm options.
as far as bose goes, i’ve got their in-ear headphones and they are the best i’ve ever had.
you are paying double if not more for any Bose product, this way they can make more infomercials and sell more cheaply made product with false sound. i’m looking for links to back up my statement. we had huge discussions on this topic back in my school days with Audio Joe Krous. He is the one that got me interested in the wrong doings of Bose.
I’m well aware that I overpaid for my Bose headphones, but the fact of it is, they sounded as good as the two other pro-grade headphones made by other brands, but the Bose were far more comfortable. So I hated doing it, but I had to buy the Bose. I wear ’em all day.
Other than that, though, I totally agree. Bose is a huge ripoff.
No, they represent a bunch of liars who lie about how their products are better than everyone else’s. I just wish someone else made some goddamn headphones that fit over my ears the way theirs do. Every other great pair was that shitty scratchy sponge material over two giant pads that just clamped down on your ears.
