This makes me think of that bit in that Palahniuk book where the character describes Johnny Appleseed as an ecoterrorist, and of Omnivore’s Dilemma to a lesser degree with the idea of new non-native species disrupting ecosystems (though the latter would be more of an application of the writer’s theory, whereas Chuck blatantly calls it as he sees it).
Sure, these things are that bizarre hippie sort of beautiful, if you can call it that, but what are the greater implications of planting arbitrary species in random locations? Think, you goddamn hippies!
Then we won’t make them arbitrary! All local flowers! Putting greens covered in black-eyed susans and indian blanket!
or scatter hemp seeds everywhere, wait to grow, and then set the fields alight.
