The Incredible Hulk
My dad and I went to see this last night at the Ritz in voorhees (which sucks now that they are catering to the kids) and I have to say the movie was pretty damn good.
It’s a decent mix of the tv show and the comics, and with the exception that the last one ends in the same location where the new one begins it much ignores that there was a movie made in ’03.
I’m told Iron Man might be Marvel’s best film yet. I haven’t seen Iron Man, so I might have to give it to this version of the Hulk.
Definitely worth checking out.

Honestly, I thought the first Hulk movie really sucked so it’s not like I have some pure connection to it. But still there’s just something that leaves a crappy taste in my mouth about them re-doing it 5 years later without it being a sequel or without it referencing the original. I’m just tired of all the remakes of old movies to begin with, but at least those are old movies so I can see the Hollywood justification even if I still think it’s shitty. Even though admittedly I liked Batman Begins so I don’t really have a leg to stand on consistently speaking. Maybe it’s more that all the “superhero” parts are CGI and I really just dislike things that are 100% CGI. I understand that you can’t do most of what needs to be done without it, but when the entire superhero is CGI…..I don’t know. Just no interest.
is there any satisfying way that a character like the hulk could be done that wouldnt require all cgi?
i do prefer when they avoid the full cgi route, thats most of the reason why i hated the new indiana jones. but i think in his case i would prefer because no human being can be the size that i imagine the hulk to be. and sometimes heavy cgi can be fogiven if it a) serves a purpose, and b) the story is strong enough for me to even forget that part of it.
also, as far as the cgi hulk goes, he is leaps and bounds above the previous one. its amazing how this computer generated character is as strong an actor as anyone else in the story to the point where i prefered his parts on the screen because he added so much emotion to the whole tragedy of banners relationship with betty ross.
While I don’t argue that it would be difficult for some degree of CGI, I just think this looks like Roger Rabbit levels of animation combined with live action. I think CGI can be done well. While I think the Transformers present just as much of a difficult proposition for non-cgi, I thought that stuff was done really well. I mean it was obviously CGI but it wasn’t cartoon like. The hulk in clips I’ve seen looks just flat out like a cartoon. And while I don’t hold the cheesy TV series up as the paragon of a comic book adaptation, I wouldn’t mind seeing something between that and the cartoon hulk of both movies.
