NYC Restaurant Suggestions
I’m going to NYC for the weekend, starting tomorrow night.
I have absolutely zero plans, but I would like to get out to a decent restaurant somewhere.
I don’t really care about price, but since I’m coming tomorrow, I do care about places that don’t require reservations.
Anybody here have any ideas? Preferably somewhere around 57th and Park, where I’ll be staying. I should be getting in around 7 PM and we will be a hungry party.
I’m up for anything. I don’t know anything about NYC.

I don’t know where it is and I don’t know how hard it’ll be to get reservations, but if there’s one restaurant in NYC I could eat at right now, it’d be WD-50.
And if I couldn’t, I’d go to Momofuku.
Momofuku is really awesome, but it’s pretty much on the other side of town from where Reggie is going to be (11th St. and 1st Ave.). Unfortunately, basically anything I would recommend for you is in the same area as Momofuku as well.
There is a fucking awesome BBQ place called Rub on West 23rd. between 7th and 8th. That’s not terribly far from where you’ll be, just a few stops down on the F or 6 trains. I don’t believe they take reservations though, so getting a table there is a complete crapshoot.
Wish I could help you more but my knowledge of NYC is pretty much limited to the L.E.S. and the Villages.
I really want to try Momofuku myself, so if you’re around a computer at 10 tomorrow morning and can make reservations I’d say go for it.
I’m not too familiar with the restaurant scene around the upper east side, but I’ve heard good things about Indigo Indian Bistro which is at 357 E 50th St. between first and second ave.
Candle 79 is pretty awesome as far as vegan cuisine, but I dunno if that’s your cup o tea. That place is at 154 E 79th St | Btwn Lex & 3rd Ave.
how incredibly awesome would it be to rent the private dining room in the wine cellar at wd~50? the tasting menu at $145 a head isn’t too bad for such a cool experience.
John said:Mandy, it was something Gos and I were considering doing for joint birthday presents this year, but I think Italy pretty much sapped us.
fuck! you have no idea how torn i was on a wedding gift. wd-50 was what i was gonna go for but i wasn’t sure if you guys were as into it as i am. plus it’s new york and it can be a hassle to get to. fuck!
reggie… not really sure what kind of food you’re looking for, but i’ve been itching to go to tailor since it opened. the food is a little out there but i’ve heard great things. and the menu is available at the bar so you could just walk in and if there are no tables, sit at the bar.
Blue Ribbon hands down. Its in Soho though. It’s my favourite restaurant. They have a raw oyster bar and their beef and bone marrow is INSANE. Plus, its open until 4am. 97 Sullivan St. near Spring Street.
Yaffa Cafe in the East Village rocks too. And its cheap.

Thanks for the suggestions, however, I totally could not remember the names of any of them when we went up.
We ended up going to Brasserie 360 since it was only about a block and a half from our hotel, and we were very hungry by the time we got checked in and ready to eat, which was around 9:30 PM. I had a pretty decent crab cake burger. It was good, but at the same time I kind of wanted the kobe burger instead.
Saturday night we were in the mood for Japanese food and went to Sharaku in the East Village.
Thanks for all the suggestions and I will consider them all the next time I go up. Oh, BTW, if anybody needs to go to NYC, look into Megabus. A one-way fare is $6, and is a comfortable ride. Plus, there’s wi-fi!
