John is hungry

Italy Log, Day 8

Our last (full) day! Lots of nothing, mostly. We get up at 5am tomorrow to drive to to Rome and catch our plane. ugh.

  • We found out that these past two weeks have been the rainiest two weeks in tuscany for the past 15 years. So that kinda sucks. Didn’t bother us much, though, except for the not getting up into various bell towers.
  • Snails were everywhere tonight after the rain. Big ones. I accidentally stepped on one taking the trash out. It was super cross. It sounded like stepped on Bugles.
  • We ate at our favorite two restaurants of the trip: Il Fondaccio (for amazing pizza) and La Toppa (for amazing traditional Tuscan home cooking). Our favorite thing about the latter is that it’s a Michelin starred restaurant that is priced like an ordinary restaurant and no one gets dressed up for. Some dude came in today with his dog. Yet it might be the best food I’ve ever had anywhere on earth.

And that’s it. I played a lot of final fantasy II on gameboy while listening to the rain outside. We drank two or three more bottles of chianti classico. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to relax on our last day.

Sounds like plenty of siesta, which is precisely the goal. That was a very good idea to revisit your favorite eateries on the last day. Safe trip!
