Neutral Milk Hotel playing In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. I would explode when it ended, if I didn’t drown in a sea of my own goosebump-induced tears first.
Or, if Hutch and Gosia were able to pull this off for their wedding, Weezer’s Pinkerton. Seriously, it would go from being the best wedding ever, to the best thing ever. We’d end it with a cooldown circle-hand-holding for the final track “Butterfly”. Then of course, we’d all explode.
I’d like to see Sonic Youth do Sister, which is my preferred SY record. Sebadoh is doing Bubble and Scrape a few places and I wouldn’t mind seeing that. Does it have to be bands that are still together? Husker Du running through Zen Arcade would be the top of the list, or Black Flag doing Damaged. I doubt either of those will ever happen though so. Something more likely that I’d like to see would be The Promise Ring doing Nothing Feels good or the Get Up Kids doing 4 Minute Mile. Both are broken up but it’s not out of the realm of possibility
a few years ago bill and i saw cryptopsy play none so vile all the way through. that was sweet. (cryptopsy as of this second? BARRRRF. HWARFFF. GAK. WHO ARE THOSE PEOPLE?)
in 2004 our friends’ band was recording with j. robbins, and i told our friend to tell him that i would give burning airlines $3,000 to play identikit all the way through in my living room. it never happened. i don’t think oscar ever asked.
i would go to all of the shows kevin v said. i’ve already seen half those bands anyway.
also, son volt – trace.
I third Aeroplane Over the Sea. I’d cry.
I was at the show when Ben Folds recorded his live album. It’s almost impossible for anyone except me to make out, but I can hear my own goofy and obnoxious laugh in the background at one point. Every time I hear it, I feel vaguely embarrassed that it’s been preserved for eternity.
I’ve thought about this subject some more and realized how much this stuff ebbs and flows with time and how albums age. Since a lot of these that I wrote down I thought about again and realize that in a lot of instances I suggested, I actually saw these bands do these full albums, simply by virtue of seeing them immediately after the albums were released (Archers of Loaf, Get Up Kids, Promis Ring, etc.) at the time either I hadn’t heard the albums and the live shows prompted me to buy them, or I hadn’t fully absorbed the album. But now with 10-15 years hindsight I’d like to go back and revisit them in a live setting again. However, then I remember the Slint reunion where they did Spiderland in it’s entirety which is one of my favorite albums ever, and was one of the least engaging live shows ever. A note for note recreation but they all just stood motionless and didn’t utter a single word between songs. So these things are actually always much better in theory than actuality.
