well, it has less to do with that and more to do with that he wont let something just die off. he has to take the idea of indiana jones and continue it…. WITHOUT INDIANA JONES!!!!
my problem with the kid is that you cant swing a dead cat without hitting his next big movie. that, and i think he doesnt have the chops yet to be casted in stuff that he was going to be (or will be) casted in.
I agree that The Bouf isn’t doing anything new or interesting, but he doesn’t have an unlikable presence as an actor. But I doubt he’s anything like Harrison Ford… that guy can spin corny, silly material into wry, sardonic gold.
The problem with George Lucas is that we make the mistake of thinking he’s a director first and foremost. He’s never liked that job, he’s just one of the original film geeks… a guy far more in love with his toys and gadgets than his narratives. He’s more passionate about developing a new CGI technique or digital camera than a character arc for Indiana Jones.
That’s not to say he didn’t hit the ball out of the park several times as a storyteller… but If he was still in his 20’s and living in his parents’ basement, he would attempting to tell stirring, epic tales by creating World of Warcraft machinima.
