Jon Stewart is still awesome but I hate when he has McCain on because he turns in some rare “Aw shucks..” sycophantic moments that make him seem just like the mainstream press who are afraid to call McCain out on anything in anything other than a jokey manner. The way he is with McCain is the exact type of thing he would mock in any regular news show with any other candidate.
That’s my point. The show is a comedy show about mocking the news and making fun of how idiotic mainstream news and public discourse has become especially with regard to the candidates and elections. And he does that well and he does it to everyone equally, even confronting guests he has on his show in an often times straightforward and harsh way. But when McCain comes on he behaves just like those news shows that fawn over McCain and treat him with “Golly gee Mr. McCain” kid gloves. Only he’s not doing it mockingly he’s doing it sincerely like the shows he’s suppsoed to be lampooning. I don’t expect him to leap over the desk and start punching McCain or anything but the way he questions McCain is a lot more softball and jokey than the way he does to other guests on the show.
I’d like to note that my comments were based on his previous 4 or 5 interviews with McCain. I didn’t get to watch this one until last night. This one was a little better and at least he asked him about the Hagee endorsement and talking about Obama being endorsed by Hamas. He still doesn’t point out dodges as much as he does with other politicians and he definitely has at least a small case of Misplaced McCain Reverence. But it’s still not as bad as previous interviews ( on which I based my comments)
