I'ma Buy Me a Bike.
I haven’t really ridden that much since I started skateboarding, so I’m not sure what I want. At first I thought maybe just some crappy bmx with the brakes that work when you push the pedals back.
Now I’m thinking a cheap mountain bike I suppose.
Any suggestions?

I finally retired my BMX (er, I meant I loaned it to Rod who loaned it to some dude whose apartment got robbed and now it’s missing, RIP little GT Pro Series…) and stepped up to a Hybrid.
I love it. Mountain bike handlebars, road bike tires. Light, turns quick, goes fast. I miss my BMX, but if I’m riding more than a couple of blocks, the hybrid is the way to go.
I want a BMX bike, too, but mostly because I don’t like how people look on mountain bikes. I would not look cool. I’d rather be a fat ass on a BMX bike not-doing-tricks than a fat ass on a mountain bike not-on-a-mountain.
Adults riding mountain bikes not on mountains = dudes that got their licenses revoked for drunk driving.
Mandy convinced me I need a BMX. I just contacted some dude on craiglist about one for $60. Gonna go check it out later this week. I am excited. I used to be amazing on my bike. Standing on the handlebars and bunny hops up curbs and doing that thing where you ride down the street on the back wheel…
I’m so going to hurt myself.
I would say to buy a bike depending on what you’ll use it for. BMX bikes are great, I’ve had a couple. The problem with those is that you can’t ride them for too long before getting kinda tired (they only have one gear, but what a gear it is). If all you want is something for joyriding twice a year, it doesn’t make sense to buy a $600 mountain bike. I think you’d be ok with a hybrid (light frame, light tires, but not quite a road bike) bike like Jason said. Jason spent $700 on his but he’s a careless guy with stuff like that. Target will have something decent for you. I just wouldn’t take a Target bike on any kind of trail.
with fixed gear, like jason said, the pedals move with the wheel, so the faster you go the more you look like a cartoon. the cool thing with fixed gear is that pedalling backwards makes you go backwards.
coaster brakes are foot-controlled brakes that make you kid, unlike hand brakes which make john possibly fly over the handlebars.
they are two wholly different parts of a bike.
let’s build bikes.
