Impending Tunes

What albums are you looking forward to this year?

I know there are plenty of new bands to try out every year, but what about the bands you love or are allowing a second chance?

I’m excited for the new Jamie Lidell, I just got into his last album “Multiply” recently and have really been digging it.

I’d like to hear No Age’s “Nouns.”

The new Roots album “Rising Down”

I suppose I’ve gotta give the new Death Cab a chance.

And of course Guns n Roses “Chinese Democracy.” I’ve got a feeling this is the year!

The My Morning Jacket, definitely and also the Wolf Parade. What else comes out this year? I just looked at the metacritic 2008 release calendar and nothing really jumped out at me. I’ll continue to have no interest in Death Cab For Cutie, since for reasons that elude me I have never been able to get into that band.

Kev, I’d never heard of this release calendar. It’s awesome!

Rumor has it that the new Death Cab is very Transatlanticism, so needless to say it is highly anticipated for me.

The rest of Thrice’s Alchemy Index is due out on Tuesday. I was a big fan of the water album, so these are intriguing.

And of course, Scarlett Johansson’s Tom Waits cover album…

Hmmm…I just noticed on that list a tentative Roxy Music with all original lineup including Eno is showing up for 2008. I’ve not heard of this, but I’m intrigued nonetheless. Also, hello New Kids On The Block. Everyone else on this release calendar may as well just call it a day and go home, because I’m pretty sure 2008 is wrapped up right there.

  • I would be more pumped about the new Portishead if I didn’t already have it (and it’s awesome).
  • I’m really curious to hear the Scarlett Johansson sings Tom Waits thing. I think that’s “Anywhere I Lay My Head” but I’m not sure.
  • New Missy Elliot could be good.
  • New Melvins could be awesome.
  • New Boris should be awesome.
  • New Blur might be awesome.
  • New Faint will probably not be awesome but I’ll want to hear it anyway.
  • New Garbage?!
  • New Gang of Four!
  • New Metallica could be hilarious.
  • New Kids on the Block will be hilarious.
  • NIN’s Year Zero part II will make me sad.
  • Team Sleep could do something good.
  • Holy crap new Tortoise!

I don’t believe it stands for anything, Kev. It came out during that era when all new gadgets got an i or an e in front of their name.

i am terrible at keeping track of this nowadays
especially because all i’ve done recently is listen to “thunder road” on repeat in my car. it’s like fourteen times a day or something.
