I expected this list to suck, but it has some great picks: some of my favorite Mr. Show and State sketches.
Word Association, Consumer Probe, and Fish-o-matic are some of my favorite old-school Saturday Night Live sketches ever. Sometimes I forget that Dan Ankroyd was really brilliant back in the day.
I would add the Papa Lazarou sketch from League of Gentlemen to the list. It’s simultaneously funny, bizarre, terrifying, and gross.
I realize this is blashemy, especially since I’m probably the only one on here old enough to remember them when they were first run, but the sketches from the original season or two of Saturday Night Live do nothing for me. They didn’t back then and they don’t know. I know I’m in the minority on this but I think that people just have this overly reverential view of those because they were in fact new and unlike a lot of what came before. I think later seasons were much funnier. I think some of the Chappelle Show skits both the ones on here and a few that weren’t deserve much higher placement. Also for the abundance of State skits on here, no Doug or “I Wanna Dip My Balls In It” is a travesty. I realize these lists are supposed to spark discussion more than anything else, so these are my talking points in said discusssion. And I’m definitely glad they included that Brokaw/Gerald Ford skit as it’s one of my favorites.
