Play us on Chess.com
Paris just got us set up on chess.com. It’s pretty awesome. In addition to various articles, blogs, tutorials, and other assorted chessy things, you can play games with people on the site or with your network of friends where you have three days to make a move. It’s a nice little way to take a five minutes break.

And there’s this fun “Vote Chess” section. The entire Chess.com community divide up according to certain specs, and take turns voting on the best next move for their color.
Some games: “30+ years VS. 29- years”, “Northern Hemisphere VS. Southern Hemisphere” and “Grandmaster Nigel Davies VS. All Members”.

There are so many intriguing articles on the front page. It’s too bad I’m busy today at work.
Okay, so maybe you don’t like chess at all. But if/when you do (which I hope is soon), keep this site in mind for information/help/games.
So, in an effort to fight off the seemingly never-ending boredome that accompanies a cushy government job, a couple of my co-workers purchased a chess board a couple of weeks ago. I have since learned how to play, and learned that I’m really, really bad at it, but also that I think I can learn to love it. I’m going to sign up on this site tonight and come looking for you dudes when I’m feeling mildly up to par.
Jonathan, I see north Jersey park chess in our future.

Are you guys starting a “guild” or whatever those weird online nerd crews are called? Can I be the supreme chancellor?

Anybody care to join me at the bore dome? The Hold Steady is playing there tomorrow.
Hutch, I know you agree, that the best kind of victory in chess comes with no guerilla tactics, secrecy, etc. It’s all out there for both players to see. I enjoy playing chess with a new person and just talking aloud about why I’m doing what I’m doing AND why the novice shouldn’t do what he/she is doing.

Wow, that’s actually really interesting and probably a sign that you’re going to be a good teacher. We’ve been playing during downtime at work and the guys that know what they’re doing just shake their heads and mutter under their breath when they watch me or some of the other shitty guys play. It sucks, because I feel like I should be good at this game but it just whoops my ass over and over again.
Give me a week to get a little more confidence (and to get my inexplicable Mega Man Anniversary Edition obsession out of my system) and I’ll be ready to go.
